EDUCATION

Playhouse 19 the Community Theater of Citrus County is proud to support youth and the future of the performing arts through our education programs, which, is a key part of our mission.


Workshops

Workshops will be conducted to cover various aspects of theatre production. These workshops will meet or exceed the national standards for theatre education. More workshops will be added soon.

Workshop: Set Painting/Faux Finish
Instructor: Jim Davis
Date: August 16th from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. Note: Come in clothing that you don't mind getting paint on... this workshop can be messy.

Workshop: Audition Preparation

Date: August 23rd from 2:00pm until 4:00pm.

Workshop: Musical Theater

Fee: Free to members, non members $5.00 Checks should be made payable to: CTCC, Inc. (All workshop proceeds go to the scholarship fund)

This form requires the adobe acrobat reader, to get the latest version click here. Enrollment is limited to first 25 students and registration is based on date forms are received. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of WATER with recloseable cap.


Scholarships

Taking the next step in the process we are proud to announce scholarships to Citrus County residents who are seniors in local high schools or registered with the county in a home school program. Two scholarships will be awarded through a competitive process in which students fill out an application, submit references and attend an interview/audition. The award amount will vary each year based on available funds. The awards will be in the fields of theater arts performance and theater arts technical (set, costume, lighting and sound design).

To apply please have the student submit a completed scholarship application which may be picked up at local guidance offices, the theater box office located at 865 N. Suncoast Blvd. in Crystal River during business hours (10 am - 2 pm Tuesday through Saturday) or online by clicking here. The application deadline is March 15th. Auditions/interviews will be held at the theater the week of April 1st. For more information call the box office at 563-1333.


Summer Student Productions

Summer 2006's production was William Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona.

Micheil McElvey and Joshua Rigdon, a pair of local theatre students home from college for the summer, directed the production.

In addition to the play there were educational workshops held to teach/demonstrate stage combat, dance choreography, Elizabethan theatre, and play structure.

Two Gentlemen of Verona is a comedy about two young men who are sent to Milan for prestige and betterment, but instead find love and adventure where they least expect it. The show ran Friday, July 28th - August 6, 2006, for the full synopsis and more information, click here.

Previous summer young people's productions included A Chorus Line, Godspell and Grease.
